Martha's Vineyard Cookbooks

 This is the original Martha's Vineyard Cookbook by Louise Tate King (who for many years was the proprietress of Louise Tate King's Restaurant on Upper Main Street in Edgartown) and Jean Stewart Wexler. First published in 1971 this wonderful collection of over 250 recipes and lore from the Vineyard is now in its third edition. Here along with traditional New England fare you'll find such mouth watering delacies as Bluefish Provencale, Oyster pie, Elderberry Rob, Black Walnut and Pumpkin muffins, Chicken baked with Rum and Honey, and Chimark Chocolate Cake. One chapter is devoted to the wonderful Portuguese recipes brought to our island from Portugal, the Azores and Cape Verde Islands by the ancestors of many of todays islanders. Try the Holy Ghost soup or Portuguese Sweet Bread.

What started out in 1971 as a cozy place to eat and relax overlooking the beach in Vineyard Haven and became a world famous restaurant has released more than 120 mouth watering recipes in a 217 page hardcover cookbook. Here you'll find good solid Island fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Start the day with a Classic Black Dog Omelet or Fishcakes Deluxe, for lunch try some Joshua Slocum Fish Chowder and a Jalapeno Shrimp Quesadillas.
